Colourful hand-made tiles

These are earthenware tiles I made to go behind a woodburning stove. They are able to withstand the high temperatures reached when the fire is burning (which were destroying the wall behind the stove before the tiles were added). This is because the tiles have been fired to a very high temperature themselves in the kiln (1160 degrees in this case).

Leaf-Pressed Tiles

Different leaves were pressed into the clay whilst still damp in order to leave indentations which fill with glaze in an attractive way when fired.
